I was born in 1946 in Bremerton, Washington. I had an early love for singing, as well as instrumental music, playing accordion competitively, and joining the folk music craze in the 1960s with a cheap guitar that I got in a pawn shop.
By the end of high school, I decided to major in music, which led to several college degrees and sparked my life-long interest in singing, especially early music and chant. The 1970s saw me teaching music in the U.S. and Canada, as well as most of a year studying voice and singing in choirs in England.
In 1979 I went back to school and switched my daytime job to computer programming, pursuing my musical interests as an avocation. My spiritual journey singing with the Compline Choir in Seattle led me to become a Benedictine Oblate at St. Placid Priory (Lacey, WA) in 2010, and publish my first book, Prayer as Night Falls: Experiencing Compline in 2013. I retired from the software industry in 2015, and now pursue multiple interests in music, spirituality, genealogy, and cooking. A discovery of letters written during the Civil War by my 2nd-great grandfather, has led to my current project, and hopefully the next book.
